South Jordan, UT | Sage & Emerson | Maternity

He was probably about 10 or 11 months old, grinning from ear to ear… so proud and so excited to be crawling up the stairs in our home. I was the lucky 11 year old aunt who got to play with this adorable little boy.  I was also lucky to have my own camera and my own film, which I used a whole lot when my nieces and nephews were around.  But the picture I remember most of Emerson is that picture of him crawling up the stairs.  He was so happy, so proud, so brave, so full of light and excitement for life. He seemed ready for any challenge, any adventure.  And now, here he is with his wife, both of them about to have the biggest adventure of their life.  They’re about to become parents.

There’s nothing like becoming a parent.  Nothing can truly prepare you for it.  Hearing that first cry and touching that warm skin for the first time is something I will never forget when each of my babies was born… and then life just changes. More meaning. More challenge. More purpose. More everything. If I were ever to give advice to new parents, I’d say to just hang on and enjoy the ride… and these two seem ready to enjoy the ride.

Emerson married an incredible woman. Sage seems to be more ready than I ever was for my kids. She’s been sick her whole pregnancy, her husband is starting medical school the day their baby is due, and yet she’s all smiles and all excitement… ready to jump into this next adventure.  I could’ve used a little more of that and a little less worry when my kids were born.  You guys are going to be awesome at this:)

Sage and Emerson, thank you for allowing me the honor of photographing such a special time in your life- preparing to welcome this sweet baby into your family.  What a lucky child to have you as parents:)  You’re both amazing, and I so loved this photo shoot with you.  I love you both and I wish you the very best on this incredible adventure of parenthood:)
