Sometimes someone is put in your path at just the right time, in just the right place, and they do and say the very things that you need right when you need them. It’s in those moments that you take a step back and realize that hope and goodness are real. They’re tangible. And then you feel inspired and driven to keep going, to spread the joy, to hold onto that hope. Wendi was one of those people for me. She was one of those people I was meant to be friends with. And it wasn’t just all the things she and her family did for us (which was a lot), like loving, playing with, and watching our kids numerous times; or inviting us into their home for meals; or helping us move… (I still can’t believe all that she and her family did to help us move). It was the way they did it. I felt like they loved me and my family like we were a part of their family. And that makes all the difference.
I remember walking along the Bay Trail with Wendi one evening. I was telling her about my photography business- how I had wanted to start it for such a long time and I was finally taking the first steps to move forward. Then she startled me by shouting out some sort of celebratory “woohoo” or “hooray”. I laughed, and then I probably shed a tear. She was genuinely excited for me. She believed in me. She saw strength in me that I didn’t always see, and it drove me to step into uncomfortable spaces and move forward in my life in so many ways.
Wendi and family, thank you for being the amazing people you are. Thank you for letting me take these pictures of your beautiful family before I moved! You will always be dear friends to me, and I will forever be grateful that our paths crossed:)
